Superhero Sunday: Na Na Na Na Na Na Batman

This Batman Mani had so much potential but ended up being somewhere between awesome and disappointing.

I found some cute Batman decals on eBay and knew what I wanted to do with them and the idea stuck with me when they arrived. So, I set about doing it. For the base colour, I used Barry M Lemon Ice Cream 

(again? I know, I’m completely in love with this yellow) For the ‘Bat-Head’ I used Barry M Black and a little bit of striping tape just to help get the shape of the ears right, and Barry M Nail Art Pens for details on the thumb.

That bit went well, the next few bits kinda sucked.

The decals were listed as water decals, and, when it comes to certain things, I’m still a bit of a noob, so when they arrived backed by brown paper card and had a weird texture, I didn’t really think anything of it. I cut them out to shape and dipped the first one in water, and of course, the image smudged off, because they weren’t water decals were they? They were stickers.

 No matter what I tried, they just seemed really visible. One of the reason was because they weren’t transparent around the design, it was a horrible, cloudy transparent, so you know, not transparent at all. And as you can probably see in the picture above, the crinkles in the stickers were still visible after smoothing down and 2 coats of Seche Vite (you could still feel them too).

The stickers are a weird, thick, gummy type sticker and they are just not good for nail art, so I highly recommend not buying decals/stickers that come on brown paper/card backing.

Overall though, I do love this mani and I might try it again minus the horrid decals, I did get some compliments on them when I had to rush out to town that day, that always cheers me up.
