So here it is, the last regular Geek Fuel. The last one we’ll likely ever get. The end of a Geek Fuel era. And while I am satisfied with the April box, I can’t help but be a little bit disappointed and let me tell you why.
So Geek Fuel decided, apparently based on feedback from customers, that they should abandon there monthly subscription completely and change to a quarterly box, that yes, will have better quality and better value items in it, but is also more expensive and for people outside of the US will also incur customs charges, making it even more expensive on top of that. So they had to know that they would probably be getting a lot of subscriber drop off after announcing the change but they didn’t have anything in this box to make it kind of special, something to thank subscribers for being subscribers at least up until this point, something to mark the end of the Geek Fuel era.
And while I was satisfied with the box, it didn’t blow me away. But lets have a look at the items and you can tell me what you think of it and what you think of the change from monthly Geek Fuel to Geek Fuel EXP.
Cloudbase Prime STEAM Game
‘Get ready to shoot a lot of robots and jump into the colourful clouds of Cloudbase Prime!’
This looks like a fun and colourful game and this time Jim has snatched it up.
Mystery Keychain- Qmx Star Wars Star Destroyer Metal Keychain
‘The mystery keychain lets everyone know whether you’re loyal to the Empire, or an undercover Rebel… or if you gotta catch ’em all. Which one will you get?’
We got the Star Destroyer which I am pretty happy about. The possibilities were this, a Millennium Falcon or a Pokeball. The Pokeball looks a bit plasticy and I already have the Millennium Falcon so yeah, I’m pretty happy and just like the Millennium Falcon I have, I am going to turn this one into a necklace.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Neca Scalers- Bebop
‘Who doesn’t need a teenage mutant hanging around at all times? Attach these guys anywhere you want, and guarantee you’ll always have a radical day.’
So, I love Donnie but the photo of the other scalers show me that all the actual Turtles ones have got faces that look like they have seen things and Bebop and Rocksteady are definitely the best ones. I was pretty happy when I saw Bebop, I don’t think he gets enough recognition in merch.
Avengers Infinity War T-Shirt
‘This month, Marvel drops one of the most anticipated movies of the year and we’ve designed an EXCLUSIVE shirt for the occasion. This limited edition Avengers: Infinity War shirt is the perfect tee to wear to the premier, and any other day you want to feel like a superhero… or a villain!’
This t-shirt is awesome but did turn up a little too late for me to wear on the day Infinity War was released in the cinemas but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to wear the crap out of it. I shall wear it everyday I wish I had seen Infinity War already and for everyday that I avoid spoilers like the plague. It fits great and feel like good quality.
ALIEN Pin Palz
‘You don’t need to get stranded in space to appreciate the terror that was Alien. Celebrate that scare with these limited edition and officially licensed pins.’
All the possible pins look awesome and we’re pretty happy with the one we got. It’s gone straight into Jim’s mini Alien collection.
And that’s it! So what did you think. It’s a bit sad that it’s coming to the end because I have really enjoyed Geek Fuel overall for the last year and I wish they decided to keep the monthly box as well as the new EXP subscription. Are you transferring over to the new quarterly sub? Or are you one of the people that decided to cancel too?
If you hear of any other nerdy subscription boxes or you already subscribe to an awesome one, let me know in the comments.
